Skulls
05:53
|
|||
Darkness has fallen, the light has all fled from this place
A cold wind is blowing, its icy claws slic throught my flesh
And winter is coming, I fear I might drown in the snow
The weight of it falling threatens to crush me to death
And I'm lost in the darkness, I can't see the path at my feet
The only way out is to set my world ablaze
So I'll walk through the fire, I'll feel its tongue scorching my soul (sole?)
And if I survive this, I'll find that the fire's warmed my bones
Fire is always hungry, it's never had enough
And skulls are always grinning because they get the joke
But fire cannot help it, to live is to destroy
Skulls go right on grinning as they turn to ash and smoke

House of Cards
05:27
|
|||
We found our way out of the storm
We, the tired, the broken, the worn
The price that we've paid is too heavy, too lofty, to steep
But any port in a storm, maybe now get us some sleep
We fly by the seat of our pants
We, far too dependant on chance
Cross your fingers, cast your bones, spin the wheel, look to the skies
Nobody makes it through even when everyone tries
So just try and settle in
'Cause this house of cards surely will fall again
It will fall again
We climbed our way out of this trap
We just could not wait to go back
Cover your bases, say your prayers, cross your t's and dot all your i's
Everybody says it'll be okay but everybody knows everbody lies
So just try and settle in
'Cause this house of card surely will fall again
It will fall again, It'll fall again, again
We thought we were on the right track
We thought we could find our way back
The price that we paid was too heavy, too lofty, to much
Just do what we can and hope maybe it will be enough
And try not to make a sound
'Cause this avalanche will surely come crashing down
It'll come crashing down, it'll come crashing down to the ground

Insidious

Lost in the dream again
Promises of grandeur
Getting beneath our skin
It's so insidious...
Recursive inequity
Collective hallucination
It can be hard to see
Throgh lies that they tell of us
Through lies they tell us of us
And they say you can't get there from here
But we don't know until we try
Swim cross the ocean, fly to the sky, shoot the moon
When we get there we'll find, we've already arrived
Lift up your feet again
You'll get nowhere going nowhere
Dressed like a mannequin
Dreaming the dreamless dream
So listen to what you said
Eternal internal wisdom
Unanticipated
Things are not what they seem
Nothing is as it seems
And they say you can't get there from here
They've underestimate us
Let us tear down the walls in our way
Then there will be nothing to put us up against
Last in a line of kings
First in line for the gallows
Half-truths and whitewashings
Won't protect you for long
So give up the pantomime
The emperor wears no clothing
Looks like your out of time
'Till the end of our song
We've been singing it all along!
And they say you can't get there from here
But who are they? How could they know?
Too many paths obscured by broken dreams
First we overcome and then we overthrow
First we overcome and then we overthrow

Volcano

There's a volcano somewhere
With an island on a lake
That's on an island on a lake
That's on an island in the ocean
A volcano with an island
On a lake that's on an island
On a lake that's on an island in the sea
And there's this wheel that we're building
With a hub and lots of spokes
That go to other hubs in other wheels
That other people are building
And their spokes go to other hubs
In wheels build by other folks
With spokes and spokes and spokes and spokes
And some of those come back to us
Inside our wheel spin other wheels
And one is you and one is me
And we're all spinning together
Inside around and throughout
Spinning circles all about
This wheel that we're building together
And that volcano with the island
On a lake that's on an island
On a lake that's on an island in the ocean
It's a volcano in the crater
Of a volcano in the crater
Of a volcano in the cradle of the sea
Inside our song sings other songs
And one is you and one is me
And we're all singing together
Inside around and throughout
Singing circles all about
These bridges that we're building together
There's a song that fills the air
With bridges everywhere
But there's no watr underneath the stones
And the song, it sings us too
It's singing me and you
But there's no water underneath, just bones

Is it human nature to indulge in chemistry
and do falling apples fall far from trees
I've seen people justify about everything
from bombing buildings to finding veins
do you prosper most in cities or towns
can you turn a trick to avoid a frown
well while I'm young my short comings seem
to justify an aspirational dream
Just one more beer, one more cigarette
and nine more dollars and eighty one cents
short term goals seem to fall short
consequentially paid with passing time
One day I'll never, some day I will
contradict myself with placebo pills
mathematically proven, psychologically backed
but there's no excuse when common sense cracks
I'll point a finger and close my eyes
drink down the shame, exhale the lies
be strong my child, maintain your gaze
there's no fucking cheese at the end of this maze
Just one more beer, one more cigarette
and nine more dollars and eighty one cents
short term goals seem to fall short
consequentially paid with passing time
Is it my head that's splitting from dehydration
or lack of self will in a material nation
will I ever commit to the things I say
or get buried with em' in the fucking grave
We want this, we want that but there's never a cap
I know we're not alone we all suffer the same
but maybe one day it will all transpire
let's throw some gas on the proverbial fire
we'll watch it burn and when morning comes
we won't just lay around
Just one more beer, one more cigarette
and nine more dollars and eighty one cents
short term goals seem to fall short
consequentially paid with passing time

Requiem for the Future
05:47
|
|||
They've stolen our future to sell it back to us
Wrapped up in plastic, infused with industrial waste
And available for four easy payments
They've pulled all our teeth, confiscated our arms
Replaced what they took with electronic distractions
And cognitive dissonance
And the future ain't what it used to be
The lords of our ancestors started this fire
Burning our fields from the past and setting us up
For chronic mediocracy
The wolves would be closing in if they still could
But they're competition so they're dissapearing
Passing into metaphor
And the future ain't what it used to be
No the future ain't hat it used to be
The hand we've been dealt is a hand that can't win
Dealt from the bottom of a deck full of jokers
And the dealer declares that nothing is wild
Tricked into thinking we actually could win
But the rules keep changing to send us all back to zero
This game is rigged!
And the future ain't what it used to be
No the future ain't what it used to be
Today's the tomorrow we looked towards yesterday
Hoping in vain that today would be something it's not
But! Tomorrow's another day!
So together today let's work towards a tomorrow
Not tied to the one that was built for us yesterday
Where everyone plays and nobody loses
'Cause the future ain't what it used to be
No the future ain't what it used to be
Th future ain't what it used to be
